Austin Liu

Austin Liu's relationship with Melhart Music started when he was 10 years old. As a trumpet player in school, he would look forward to the monthly visit to Melhart Music Center to buy valve oil and polish cloths. That soon changed at 15 when he became interested in guitar and took his first lesson at Melhart Music Center.

Austin majored in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, (formerly North Texas State University). UNT is considered one of the finest Jazz schools in the world. After finishing his studies, he taught one year at Melhart Music Center and decided to move to Los Angeles and try his luck there. Signed to Sony Records as a singer/songwriter in the early 90s, Austin found himself playing with many well known artists such as members of Quiet Riot, the Firm, W.A.S.P. and Sophie B. Hawkins. Austin also has songs published with Polygram, Transition, and A&M records. When Heavy Metal died in the mid 90s he decided to give up his dream, head home and regroup. He headed to San Antonio to help his sister open up a medical practice there. Once that was established he decided to move back to the Valley to teach. So, in 1997 he started teaching guitar and bass at Melhart Music Center.
