Slap Djun Djun 10"
The SLAP Djun Djun, commonly called a DunDun or Dunan, is an essential part and heartbeat of every classroom drumming collection. Traditionally played worn with the included shoulder strap or rested on a stand, the Djun Djun provides a rhythmic and melodic base for the djembe or other drumming ensembles. Can also be played in the Mandingue style, with the drum resting on its side on the floor or on a stand.
This double-headed bass drum has a fantastic projection with powerful booming bass tones and a
well-rounded sound. It is lightweight (7 lbs) and sturdy, perfect for the most rigorous classroom use, and the stable double stringed rope-tuned synthetic 10” drumheads are resistant to changes due to weather.
As with all SLAP brand drums, the tactile playing surface gives it an authentic feel and includes the innovative “how-to-play” graphics printed directly on the drumhead. These show where the hands or beater should strike to obtain a variety of sounds, making it effortless to create booming bass, crisp slaps, and singing open tones. As one teacher put it “the graphics are a godsend when teaching the different sounds and tones of hand percussion.”
The SLAP Djun Djun will enliven any musical performance both with its powerful sound, and its colorful patterned exterior. Musicians and educators recommend this drum for introducing the joys of rhythm not only in the classroom but also in music therapy sessions, drum circles, or anywhere you feel like jamming.
A staple in music education
The Djun Djun is widely used in music classrooms to teach rhythm, providing the heartbeat for the drumming sessions. Can be played by hand or with the optional beater where students can learn different hand drum tones. The colorful pattern wrapped around the drum gives a fun and exciting look, inviting young students to learn and play. Teachers appreciate the durable build and stable tuning, withstanding the rigors of the classroom.
The “how-to-play” graphics on the drumhead make teaching and learning simple and allow you to tailor your class to be inclusive to different types of learners, opening the door to music-making for all levels and abilities.
